LEED Version 3
What do the new LEEDv3 guidelines mean for you and your buildings?
Are you planning on creating a LEED certified building? If you are, you should know the US Green Building Council has substantially updated their LEED certification program and the new guidelines will have a big impact on the energy efficiency of buildings aiming for LEED status. The LEEDv3 guidelines, effective June 25th, 2009, require all project, 2009 and onward, to meet a set of Minimum Program Requirements. One of the Minimum Program Requirements is that a building must commit to sharing whole building energy and water usage data for a minimum of 5 years. Prior LEED standards only required performance metrics to be met at the time of certification. The new standards require a project be disqualified for certification consideration if monitoring is not completed and if the project fails to adhere to the monitoring component for the minimum 5 years, and the USGBC has the option of revoking the LEED certification.
