We all want to help save the world, but how and where do we begin?
The Noveda Challenge is to see how much you can change your carbon footprint for your building or enterprise. How much can you change yours over the next year?
Do you have multiple facilites?
Use Noveda's EnergyFlow Monitor™ to create competitions between your facilites to maximize your energy savings!
The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) states that buildings are responsible for almost half (48%) of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. EIA has also determined that US annual energy consumption is projected to increase by 37% and greenhouse gas emissions by 36% over the next twenty years.(1)
Determining your buildings energy use and carbon footprint is not easy to do or something that you do every day. But it is important to know this information to monitor and track change how your building is operating and the results of energy efficiency, renewable energy and monitoring and verification program activities.
The goal should also be to look at this information more often than your utility bill which is typically available 30-45 days after you have used the energy. This is too late to take action and to change your consumption pattern. When we change our energy consumption, or use renewable energy, we also change our carbon footprint.
We can look at this two ways(2), the first is what is our carbon footprint for the year based on our electricity and natural gas consumption.
The second way we can look at this is to compare our electricity and natural gas consumption for the same time period for two different scenarios such as budget versus target or baseline versus an equivalent LEED certified facility.
The five steps on the next page will help get you started on your way…
